or the stomach flu? I thought it was the stomach flu but it has occured to me that it is the meds now... just wondering what you all think? I took my first Methotrexate on Saturday around 3 or 4 and got fairly nauseous that night and was perfectly fine Sunday. This morning about 3 am I got SUPER SUPER sick! Non stop puking, diarrhea, achey achey achey and ZERo energy (couldn't even get out of bed). I am still sick now

That sounds exactly like what happened to me. Only it was when I started the 6 pills. I felt alittle nauseous with 4 but really didn't start getting really sick til later. It could be partly that and it could also be the flu--everyone in Oklahoma has it. All the hospitals are full so its a tough call. If it is the meds it will be out of your system in a few hours, usually takes about 12 for me. Hope its not the flu, you really don't need that....

did your problems start that long after taking it? I always thought the side effects started within 24 hours? Did yours start after a day and a half?

Like you, my doctor said if I were to have side effects it would start later...That wasn't so. About 3-4 hours after taking the pills I started feeling funny in my head then my stomach started to roll. I had to lay down to keep from throwing up. He had me injecting myself in the leg when he increased dosage because of the sickness, but I couldn't do that for very long. He thought it was all in my head!!! It wasn't though. Now I take it later in the day so that I can lay still at night. I still don't get much rest but aleast my whole day wasn't messed up.

To conteract the sickness caused by Methotrexate, my doctor told me to take 1 gr. of potassium. I am at 4 pills and will take 5 next week. So far so good.

Unfortunately, the meth hasn't seemed to help. Things seem to be getting worse rather than better.

I have been on it almost 3 months now and it is working better than anything so far with absolutely no side effects - my rheumatologist said that is because I take 1g Folic Acid/day... you said potassium... did you mean Folic Acid? If not, you mean want to try FA! I also take mine right before bed too! I am on my way to 8 pills in the next couple of weeks and will try to slowly wean off the steroids...

My bad. Sorry, yes I meant folic acid. I take it daily, 1 gr. So far, so good. I start 5 pills next week.

I've been really fortunate that the MTX hasn't usually affected me, but when it does, the nausea strikes about 48 hours after my dose.

I used to get really sick from the methotrexate, it would cause me the nausea and fatigue. I was taking 6 pills and it would put me in bed all day. Now I give myself the injections in my stomach of the same amount, just liquid form and it's a huge difference. I still have some side effects, but nothing like before. And the injections hurt me less than a mosquito bite. So they really aren't that bad. When I asked my doctor he switched me to the injections right then. I also take the folic acid daily, and they say that's really important for fighting some of the side effects. Best wishes, I hope you feel better soon.
