Hi! I am a 53-year old woman and I am in nervous anticipation of a future with RA. My father had it and was bedridden in the last years of his life because of the pain in his back. I am beginning to feel some pains on my back, fingers and arm joints, and it is not reassuring. I'd like to know more about how others cope.

Keep a positive mind and try to keep active. Medicine is very different today and although your father's experience was bad it don't mean that yours will be the same.

Mockingbird is right, mamabear. You have to think positive no matter what, and things have changed. Please don't visit your father's pain on yourself. Let your situation be whatever it is and go from there.

Mamabear, you may share the same illness as your father but nothing says you have to share the same outcome. These are different times with different treatments.

Mamabear, you have already heard real wisdom from caring members of this forum. Take it slow, read as much as you can from good web sites especially about the newer meds, and just chime in whenever you would like some personal feedback. The whole RA situation is complicated, but as folks have said it's much, much more manageable than it used to be. Welcome, and let us hear from you. Patience and persistence. Best to you.
