Had my battery of doctors visit's today. I was pretty concerned because I had to see yet another new doctor. Much to my surprise this doctor suggested a second opinion when he reviewed the work of my endo. I was floored... but grateful as I wondered about this guy. has anyone else ever had any doctor that said that to them?

nope..just wondering why the doctor had to suggest a second opinion ,,for me its a rare situations..just wondering if this doctor had lost his confidence to diagnosed such kind of illness..its usually the patients who will always opt for a second opinion if doubtful of the results..

I think it is important to go for a second opinion once the pain is recurring. this will alleviate the pecking doubt of RA being accumulating or just any joint pain because of heavy work.

I had advised you to go for second visit, whereas it happened with my wife's case too, now. She has got some pain in her neck, shoulder and foot. Foot pain is the major problem. After few visits, it is being diagnosed but yet to confirm RA. As of now, doctor has told it is mild RA and he is advising to go with medicine for some more time before going for full check up.

I have had multiple occasions over decades (e.g., wheat allergy, atrial fibrillation, osteoarthritis, small cerebellar infarcts...) where doctors have readily suggested that a second opinion would be a good idea. More and more even specialists are realizing that they may not be absolutely on top of every new advance in their own fields. Much of medicine still remains an art. Be glad you have a doctor who is open to question by others, rather than one who thinks s/he is the Almighty! Kageyd

No, in fact my family doctor got upset with me when I asked for a second opinion once. That was a long time ago and I was young. I cowered, and I am sorry I did. I certainly wouldn't cower now.

I've heard of doctors referring you to a specialist if they feel the need, but them saying to get a 2nd opinion is a new one. Was this doctor a rheumatologist?

It's better for you to have a second opinion, that doctor did not lose his confidence or what, it's a good advice coming from the doctor.

Sometimes doctors rely on second opinions and it is good to have that. Doctors are also human and they would prefer to be very sure about the procedures and other data before beginning the treatment and it certainly is the better way of approaching the solution.

There is nothing to lose if you try a second opinion, it's better that you have this kind of a doctor because he is giving you more options. It's your health we are talking about and it is a serious matter.
