Anyone heard of treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg which are commonly called as podiatry and a widely used term in European nations especially in Britain. It is considered as one of the effective therapies to help joint problems in Rheumatoid arthritis treatment.:)

My wife who off late developing pain in her foot is complaining of severe pain. But not any form of disorder. I am really thankful for this post to come across the term 'Podiatry.' I have to check with the doctor for this while going for next check for my wife.

A podiatrist is a trained person who has special expertise in feet. Licensing to do surgery varies from state to state; in some states podiatrists can go up as far as the knee, in others they can do surgery only on the feet - or such is my understanding.

I had taken my wife to the doctor last week and nothing worry. We are adviced the term podiatry is some serious form of deformability and not worry about this.

Here is one short dictionary definition of "podiatry":
"Podiatry....the care of the human foot, especially the diagnosis and treatment of foot disorders. Also called chiropody."
Podiatry is not a disease, it is a branch of medical care.

Is this Podiatry belongs to RA family or it is some other form of medical disorder. That's what my doctor told and see what andrew25 has wrote:

Podiatry is a form of medical care that TREATS diseases of the foot. Podiatry is not a disease, it is a way to TREAT disease. Look it up on Wikipedia.

Yes, I mjust went through the url provided by crimson. It is very heartening to read about the treatment of a fractured sesmoid bone by Dr. Cassidy and the patients assertion that the foot pain vanished totally after the successful treatment. Good.
