When I was younger, I used to think my pain wasn't RA because my ankles didn't hurt like my grandma's and aunt's. Of course, now that I'm older I feel it there, but it took a long time to get a diagnosis because I just knew that wasn't it.

My mother has no symptoms at all, my grandmother did but she only complained about her feet, being diabetic we always thought that was the case.

Actually my mom was never diagnosed until we were grown, and even though she didn't have a lot of pain when younger, her physician told her she had had an autoimmune for a while. My grandmother was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her 60's, so we didn't really have a lot of experience with any type of arthritis at all while growing up.

My Mom doesn't have RA and she's 80. She was dxd. at about age 70 with Osteoarthritis.
My Dad was dxd. with RA at age 68, many years after I was dxd.

You are right. This is the problem with the ankle pain. My sister who is 45, is having pain in her shoulder and ankles took some pain killer in the initial period. she is suffering from that for the past four years. When the shoulder pain persists, the doctor diagnosed it with mild RA and she is undergoing treatment. She and everyone at home, as you were telling, in the initial period thought of just like you.
