View Full Version : clinical trial
Has anyone been in a clinical trial with new rheumatoid meds not yet approved? I lost my prescription coverage and can't afford the meds. It has been a yr. and half without them and it is destroying my body. So, I am thinking of doing a clinical trial. any input is appreciated . thanks

I remember some years ago that the NIH - National Institute of Health - has a list of ongoing clinical trials across the country, and you can sign up to be notified when one is coming up for your particular interest, in this case RA. I believe they still run that service; it's worth checking out (I'm not in a situation with RA yet to want to be in a trial, so I haven't checked it out recently). Take a scan through the various NIH web sites, and just put "clinical trials" into the search functions. Kageyd

I agree with Kageyd here, you should try to sign up first so that in any case that they are looking for one they can immidiately contact you.

I had applied for a Clinical Trial and everything was okay until they asked if I had any other diseases. Diabetes was a No-No for that trial.

Sorry to hear that you are in this situation Cag. I missed the point of your message. You should be on Disability unless your Family income is too much.
You didn't say where you are but I will assume that you are in the USA.
Here is a site in the USA, to help People obtain medications for different diseases, if they don't have much money. The site was started by Montel Williams(talk show host) who has MS.
When you see the pop-up Security Warning, just click Yes or the X in the top corner, in order to view the site. If you remember what drugs you were using then find them by clicking on the first letter of the drug on the main page. Read through the site so that you thoroughly understand your options. You will need to supply some of your information.
https://www.pparx.org/
You could also contact different drug companies and ask to speak to someone higher up like a manager, etc. Some of these companies will send People with diseases the medications that they need, for a while anyways. They may also be able to direct you to other places that can help you.
Churches, community centers, etc. in your area may also be able to help. There are many helpful organizations out there. I wish you Luck.
thank you for your replys. I did find a clinical trial and received all the paper work, and am in the process of reading over all of it before i decide to do it. As far as being on disability, I am but medicare does not pay for prescriptions. I will check out each suggestion you have all made. thanks alot

Take care Cag. I wish you recover your composure and come back to normal. My wife who is having mild RA is having regular pain in her feet and being going for treatment for the past seven to eight months. Nothing sort of improvement. But hoping for the best.

Sorry, I don't know much about your Medical Care Programs. I thought People in the US are on Social Security Disability. Or is that the same as Medicare? If a Person here qualifies for Disability then they get their drugs free except for a $2.00 Pharmacy fee for each prescription. Oh and expensive drugs like the Biologics would not be covered.
You most likely know about the Walmart $4.00 medications. Just click on the condition you have and maybe one of your other drugs are listed. I presume that it is updated.

Good Luck in which ever way you think will work for you.

The url provided by kageyd is interesting. But clinical trials can be conducted only after collecting the necessary and satisfactory information about the drugs and also the methodology and the devices involved in the treatment of any disease for that matter.

To Terrie: Unless you are planning on moving to the US, I wouldn't spend time trying to figure out which plans in the US cover what conditions and medications. The problem comes because each of the 50 states has its own services, requirements, and limitations. It is madness trying to figure them all out. The "set pieces" are Social Security (at an age somewhat flexible), and Medicare, which is automatic at about 65 but which can come earlier if one is officially Disabled. But Medicare covers only 80% of costs, so each person has to get a "supplemental" plan as well, and those are all over the board. Madness!!

Hey Kageyd: :D
Ya, so I noticed. Thanks for mentioning it. No, I'm Happy here thanks. :)
Same over here. Most Provinces and Territories have different degrees of regulations and coverage. But they also have different taxes, benefits, etc.
With 50 states....way worse as you said.
I hope that you are feeling okay. Spring's almost here. YAY!

Oh, you are an optimist Terrie ( we ALL have to be!), but February and even parts of March can be darned cold in New York. I'm hoping that our recent cold snap is it for the winter. Yay Spring!!!! Kageyd
