People with Osteoarthritis who are almost physically inactive and also above middle-aged benefitted equally like people who do either strength training programs or self-management programs or a combination of the both, concluded by researchers participating in the Multidimensional Intervention for Early Osteoarthritis of the knee (Knee study).
I do accept with a tinge of sceptism that as my wife who is undergoing treatment for RA, does feel relaxed without pain if she is not pre-occupied. But once the pain in her foot comes back, its really pain for me to see until I massage her foot.

Thanks for the information Nature and I to wants to have an RA free environment for us though it's a step by step process but someday they will have a permanent cure for it.

If the RAs need not worry for non-exercise it is good news. But a bit of stretching exercise in the morning will do a world of good to even sufferers. Doctors also opine that stretching eercise may not aggrevate the pain unlike the other types of exercise.

I agree. Exercise(even light stretching)is important for every Person including most People with RA. It keeps the circulation and body and brain in Better condition. It also takes away the stiffness usually and helps to keep the muscles in tact and strong longer. It also aids in delaying fusion in the joints and so on.
I could barely walk last summer and I told my Rheumy that I was wondering about a knee replacement. He said I was too young(not so, since my Cousin had hip and knee replacements in his late 30's).
Instead, my Rheumy gave me Cortisone shots in my knees and said he wanted me back on the Orencia with MTX this time. I felt Better so I started stretches, brisk walks on the treadmill, up and down the stairs exercises and others. I'm still feeling not too bad most days. It's Good sometimes to fight through and past the pain even though it doesn't sound logical. I'm Glad that I didn't need that knee replacement yet. :)

My Mom has OsteoArthritis and Osteoporosis. She's 80 and still looks after herself and lives in her home. But I know that she can't do much exercises.
