I would like to have a very healthy debate on this, since my wife is with a very normal physique of her age, but weighs slightly more than average. Apart from RA she is suffering from Asthma too.

I believe obesity people are more prone to RA or otherwise.

a study reported that rheumatoid arthritis related joint damage appears to be more severe for those with a normal body mass index (BMI) than for those who are obese. However, only obese patients with a positive rheumatoid factor appeared to have less joint damage. The finding that having a normal weight was a risk factor for people with RA runs directly counter to most research, which shows that normal weight is more beneficial for one's health.

You are right. RA has something to do with obesity. The obese due to lack of proper physical exercise allow the bones to become very weak. In addition to that if calcium intake is poor it would worsen the situation. A good intake of calcium strengthens the bones.
