The answer is yes to some extent. Doctors say that what is called renal amyloidosis can trouble the kidneys caused by inflammation. RA may affect the glomerulus but need not cause dangerous harm. Penicillamine treatment is recommended by the doctors in such cases.

Kidney damage can be a serious side effect - in some people - of some of the medications used to treat RA, especially the biologics (which also have liver damage as a not-uncommon side effect).
