Yes fear of heights is a peculiar disease and a nagging phobia. I experience this at times when I am up the terrace of a tall building or a tower. I was warned by the doctor to be careful while scaling heights. He asked me not to peep from heights.

Not I, I love being up in tall buildings (Hey, I live in NYC). Met my husband at the top of the then tallest building in Chicago (Prudential Bldg), and we both love to go "up." Having lived in CA for many years, we also spent a lot of time up in the high country of the Sierra camping and hiking. Up, up and away.... Kageyd

That is great! I live in Madras, India and I use the stairs whenever I have to reach any 10 story building in the city. I do not use the lift much because of this problem of the fear of heights. I do not know I how I would manage if I visit cities like Chicago at any part of my life!

I believe you are affected by Acrophobia, the phobia for heights. Like all other phobias this too can be controlled or stay out of fear, by desensitisation.
The best method for curing fear of heights phobia involves gradual desensitisation, slowly exposing the sufferer to ever-greater heights while teaching them relaxation techniques that will enable them to maintain their presence of mind.
Some of the methods that work best are NLP and timeline therapy.

Before I had this fear of height, but when I joined the mountaineering club when I was in college, I lost my fear of heights because they trained me to do rappelling (it's quite fun!) and mountain climbing.

Adhityan,
Why in the world did you make several different posts about basically the same exact thing? Wouldn't it have been more conducive to just post ONE reply since it was the same message over and over? Just a suggestion because when you do that it over stuffs the thread and members are wasting time reading the same thing over and over again.
As to the original question, I don't have a fear of heights per say, but I am a bit scared elevators. I've seen too many people being stuck in them on the news and it just makes me queasy thinking about it. If the ride up is not too long, I usually just take the stairs.

I truly love climbing higher places and even planning to do bunjee jumping one day. Otherwise, everybody as a weakness or phobia, which they may know or not.

I am 45 years of age. Not very young as you would have imagined! Yes adhityaen I suffer from acrophobia. Thank you for sending across the link about acrophobia. Somehow I am unable to get over this. I tried but failed. I will suffer if I visit places in the US.
