AS discussed earlier RA has a lot to do with familial transmission. HLA-DR4 homozygoes (individuals of the same gene location) is identified in 60% of the people with rheumatoid arthritis. 'Twin study' is performed as part of familial studies.

Prasanth, it would really help the rest of us if you would post URL's or other specific references to things like the HLA-DR4 item you just posted. Thanks. Kageyd

I would like to place the link relating to the topic for our fellow members. Even though many theories are around RA, everybody is requested to have a strict follow up with Rheumatologist.

HLA-B27 And HLA-DR4: Arthritis and the Genetic Factor
Is Arthritis All in the Family?
Why Me? Is It In The Genes?
# Why does one person get arthritis as opposed to another person?
# Why is a person afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis rather than osteoarthritis?
# Why does one person have it much more severely than another person?
The endless "why" questions traverse the minds of people who suffer with arthritis, the people who care about them, the doctors who treat them, and the researchers who strive to find the answers.
Researchers and scientists are focused on what causes arthritis and what predisposes certain people to the disease. Many things have been considered as contributing to the cause of arthritis, including:
* viruses
* environmental factors
* diet
* other triggers

Is Arthritis All In The Family?
Researchers are not ready to declare genetics or familial factors as the sole cause of arthritis and related diseases. As more and more studies are done, the genetic factor seems more evident.

Thanks naturelover for the urls provided. These information bring to light the impact of genetic factors on the occurence of rheumatoid arthritis. It is also a revelation that one out of two children born to a mother who dies of cancer will be diagnosed for cancer in his or her life! So almost all ailments have genetic factors threaded to them.
