Anyone try to eat differently in order to help with their RH? A few years back I went to see a "natural doctor" that I was referred to by a few people. He told me that people with " autoimmune " disease most likely are allergic to eating meats and dairy products, it causes intestinal permability ( aka leaky gut syndrom) and the immune system attacks itself causing autoimmune diseases like RH, ect... I did test positive for being allergic to eggs and milk products surprisingly!! I haven't had the courage to start eating this "special diet" yet. It consists of eating mostly fish, vegies , fruits and only healthy things in order to heal my stomach and eventually help me get off of these deadly meds. I plan on starting this diet next week and see what happens!
Anyone else hear of this ???
ps the medical doctors aren't trained in this field of natural healing, so they don't know anything about it.

Sunshine, I have switched almost totally now to Facebook's Rheumatoid Arthritis Group, which has over 3000 members, many of them very active on a daily basis; I find it informative, friendly and caring, interesting, and infinitely superior to any other places I've looked for a support group. I find that people are simply not posting on this site any longer, but I keep checking in anyway and will continue to do so.

Yes, a lot of people on the large Facebook RA group talk about food allergies as triggers for immune responses. It's a very complicated subject, because almost no one ever does good research on people's diet and their diseases - it's just too complicated to figure out ALL that people are eating. I have often seen suggested that you try to eliminate from your diet anything that you eat that makes you tired, upsets your stomach, or otherwise irritates you. Keep those irritant foods out for at least several weeks, then slowly reintroduce them ONE AT A TIME for at least a week, and see what happens, see which ones are OK and which ones give you trouble. Takes time, but it's better than just writhing in pain.

You will find lots of info on this subject, lots of people who are testing their responses to food, on the FB RA group.

If you have trouble figuring it out (it's free, totally) send me a question or two here and I'll try to help.

Good luck to you, Sunshine. Kageyd

Thank you so much for your advise! It seems like no one really understands this possibility. I have been on other sites and people on there basically just laugh and think it's rediculous. Food allergies make so much sense though. I will deffinatlely go onto fb and check out the forum on there! Thanks again ;)

There are 3, I find that the one that has 3000 members is by far the most useful. You can sign up for as many as you like. Takes a few days to separate out what's on Wall and what's in Discussion - I personally like Discussion because it's easier to track the topics.

I've been looking into dietary changes myself, I'm going to speak to my specialist about it when I see him and request that my doc checks my bloody for allergies (he took A LOT) as we have a history of IBS / intolerance in my family, which I don't think I suffer from.

There are all sorts of natural supplements you can take to help strengthen your joints, bones, muscles etc but again it's not something I know much about. I know someone who works in a health shop so I'm going to ask when it's open - I'll post back when I have info.

I once read that switching to a "caveman diet" - fish, meat and veg - can help, and then slowly re-introducing things can help establish what makes you flare up.

I'm gonna find this group too but I'll still post here :)
