I am currently on plaquenil and methetrexate for my RA. I take ultram for pain along with aleve. Lately, I have been seeing a homeopathic physician to help with my fibromyalgia. I am taking extra vitamins and minerals and have been put on a diet of 80% fruit and veggies and 20% chicken, turkey, or fish. I have to admit that I feel like I have more energy with the diet and extra vitamins and minerals. She has helped me understand that certain foods can cause inflammation and I try to stay away from them. The methetrexate makes me sick at my stomach and light headed. I am taking 8 pills every Tuesday. I have not tried any of the more expensive drugs like Enbrel because of the cost.

Any comments?

How long does the Methotrexate make you feel sick? I start taking it tomorrow (4 pills). My husband is home on Sundays and I was told IF I was going to be sick it would be the day after so to plan accordingly. I am very nervous about taking it but also very hopeful. ;)

I have been wondering how the methotrexate has been working for you? Are you doing okay? Just checking. Hope things are going well for you. Take care. Linda

MNMom,

My doctor has me take 1 gr. folic acid daily to alleviate the stomach upset from methotrexate. So far, so good. I also take it with food. I am to start 5 pills today.

My guess is that I won't be getting rid of this pain as soon as I had hoped. Liver enzyme test didn't turn out so well so my methotrexate is being reduced. They will run more tests. I will just need to learn to live with it. Alcohol has never been on the agenda. Lipitor is, however, and that may be the culpret. I may go back to the diet but it is difficult and expensive. Gluten free, no milk, beef, tomatoes, squash, corn, low fat, low salt, no soy products. That sure takes the fun out of eating.

I switched from oral methotrexate to injections of it and it has helped a lot with the side effects. I was really nervous about it, but it has made a big difference on how I feel the day I take it and the needles they gave me are so small I hardly feel them.

Best wishes,

Sandi
