I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis in April of 08. I had an aquaintence who suffered for 10 years with RA and he told me about a specialist who actually cured, (yes CURED) his arthritis in 6 months. He went from not being able to get out of bed, to completely fine!! My first appt with them I could hardly walk from my car to the office because the pain in my knees and feet was so bad. Now most days I hardly notice I have RA. The only time I really feel it is after repetitive use of a joint or after exercise.
Check out thearthritiscenter.com.

My first appt lasted about 4 hours. They x-rayed every joint, did a number of lab tests and asked tons of questions about my pain and other symptoms. When I came back for my second appt they confirmed that I had RA and told me the plan of treatment. They explained that my blood tested positive for mycoplasmas, and that these bacteria actually cause my pain and eliminating them takes time, but by slowly eliminating them with antibiotic treatment, there is hope of being cured. For the last 11 months I have been taking a low dose of doxycycline and I no longer have pain. I still have mycoplasma in my blood, but the amount continues to reduce, and my RA factor has dramatically reduced. Recently I began taking a supplement that is supposed to also kill mycoplasmas with little side effects. It is a fermented wheat supplement that tastes horrible, but research has shown it works wonders. For more information about it go to avemarresearch.com.

I write this because I remember the rheumatologist at Kaiser told me I would have RA the rest of my life and all I could do was reduce the symptoms with drugs. I'm so glad I didn't accept that, and I'm so blessed to have found a doctor who has helped heal people of such a dibilitating disease. May YOU find hope that you too may experience living the rest of your life RA-Free!

Hello!

Avemar is a nutrition to stabilize your immune system.

So it could work getting things a little better, but still is no full medication for RA. You still need to take other pills too.

Thanks for the mycoplasma information, I'm sure many of us will be tracking it down.

Oh, and I just remembered - there was recent discussion here about the effectiveness of monocycline - which is a close relative of deoxycycline!!

Here is an excellent web site that discusses the history of mycoplasmas and RA, and the use of antibiotics -- all dating back to 1939. In case the URL doesn't work, I've shown below it the generic site -- About.com, and the subcategory Rheumatoid Arthritis/Joint Conditions. That should be enough to get everyone there who wants to be there.

http://arthritis.about.com/cs/antibiotic/a/antibiotictreat.htm

Following the http and //, the text should be: arthritis.about.com/cs/antibiotic/a/antibiotictreat.htm

About.com
Rheumatoid Arthritis / Joint Conditions

It's a very interesting discussion, and includes the story of minocycline, which some folks here have asked about. It sounds to me as though SOME RA sufferers may have mycoplasma as their causative agent, but not all. I'd be interested in seeing material from the book when it's available.

Thanks, all. Kageyd
